Greetings in the Powerful name of My Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The focus of this message will be towards an area that is challenging for believers but carries an abundance of glory to God and brings great reward to ourselves.
In Jeremiah 35 (AMP):
- The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah: 2 Go to the house of the Rechabites and speak to them and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers; then give them [who are pledged to drink no wine] some wine to drink.5 And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pitchers full of wine, and cups, and I said to them, Drink wine.6 But they said, We will drink no wine, for Jonadab son of Rechab, our father, commanded us: You shall not drink wine, neither you nor your sons, forever. 8 And we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days—we, our wives, our sons, and our daughters. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Go and say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction and listen to my wordsand obey them? says the Lord. 14 The command which Jonadab son of Rechab gave to his sons not to drink wine has been carried out and established [as a custom for more than two hundred years]. And Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the command of Jonadab your father and have kept all his precepts and have done according to all that he commanded you, 19 Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Jonadab son of Rechab shall never fail [to have] a man [descendant] to stand before Me.
Let us begin by asking ourselves this question: why is it that we can obey any situation, any law, and any person except our heavenly father? In passage of scripture above we see humbling obedience. Here God brings to Jeremiah’s attention (by making a comparison between the Israelites and the Rechabites) how the Rechabites obeyed their father’s instruction for so long and so diligently even when he was no longer with them in the physical.
What pains God here is that he is more to us than our earthly fathers or parents could ever be, as he walks with us every minute, is with us always, never fails us, keeps to his promises and continues to be faithful even when we do not deserve it, but we fail to Just obey his instruction . We do not even blink twice to obey whatever and whenever, yet we fail with most important person; Our Father, thee Most high, ancient of Days, King over all!
When we do not Obey God we are simply saying to God:
We do not trust you!
We know better!
And we display a rebellious attitude and total disregard towards our heavenly father.
No act or good deed goes before God unnoticed, hence we see how God rewards the Rechabites for their obedience towards their father’s instruction. Now imagine if the Israelites had been obedient what God would have done for them.
When we obey God we show a deep reverence and are proclaiming that God is master and what he says, we trust him whole heartedly to do as he instructs. God loves us, there is nothing that he will say we should do that is to our detriment.
In the scripture below we see how Obedience is rewarded and how that obedience has not just benefited an individual but us as Christians sit today basking in the Glory of Christ’s obedience.
Philippians 2 New Living Translation (NLT)
Have the Attitude of Christ
- 5. You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God,he did not think of equality with Godas something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form. 8 He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honour and gave him the name above all other names.
I pray beloved that as we walk with God daily, the Holy Spirit helps us to obey the word of God, that where God leads and instructs we follow. So that we may stand before Jesus Christ and receive our crown of righteousness. God Bless you!
