Counselling Counselling Ministry Joe Kutoane Responsible for the Counselling Ministry Counselling 1 Peter 1: 2-3 “May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence” Psalm 33:11a “The counsel of the LORD stands forever” Luke 1:37 “For nothing will be impossible with God." The counselling department serves as a vessel to offer assurance of the good news and counsel to mainly new converts about salvation. Once the visitor has been ministered to in psalms and hymns and they have been convicted by the word of God, it is necessary for the one who answers the altar call to obtain assurance of the wonderful work of Christ on the cross and some clarity about salvation before they go back home. Unlike secular psychology, Christian counselling points always to Jesus Christ as the answer and provision for all needs and reaffirms the bold decision that the new convert has taken in being translated into the kingdom of God. The challenge for all converts is to overcome self and to rely again on their Lord and Saviour for all things. The counselling department seeks to emphasize this new paradigm and the fact that as new creation, the word must be central to our thinking. Our team meets every Sunday morning for the church-wide intercession session to prepare for the work ahead and is made up of mature Christians (1Tim3:6), not given to gossip (1Tim3:9), who are good listeners and whose work is to rely on the word of God, not secular wisdom, as the basis of all counsel to new converts.
